Five Structural Pillars of Leadership Capability
The Five Structural Pillars are the diagnostic lens in Stuart Andrews' Leadership Capability Architecture™ — the five systemic patterns assessed when diagnosing a leadership team. Each maps to a stage of the 5D Leadership Architecture™, and each has a signature failure mode that shows up long before it reaches the numbers.
They are distinct from the Five Pillars of Infrastructure, which are the delivery lens — what gets built inside the organisation to fix what the diagnostic reveals. The Structural Pillars tell you what is breaking; the Infrastructure Pillars are what gets installed in response.
- Alignment System — strategic clarity, shared direction, and decision-making architecture; breaks down as quiet divergence.
- Leadership Identity System — how a leader shows up under pressure; breaks down when behaviour no longer matches what the role demands.
- Execution Cadence System — operational rhythm, meeting architecture, and follow-through; breaks down when commitments are made but not honoured.
- Capability Pathways — talent development, delegation maturity, and succession; breaks down when the leader becomes the ceiling.
- Cultural Reinforcement System — values activation, psychological safety, and recognition; breaks down when what is rewarded contradicts what is stated.
